Show me the Money!!

It’s been nine days since my last entry. So, what’s been going?

Not too much!! Which is good, I guess when it comes to my emotional well being. I am very happy to report: “It’s been very peaceful in my head!”

Construction is dragging along. What is new? Did I mention that we hired a new person to finish the stuff the other contractor originally planned on doing? We switched because he kept having excuses why he could not come out this day or that day. Not that we would not understand that he has a personal life, but come on; you said you could and now you cannot.

It’s December, we have no windows in and the temperature in our house drops to the upper 40’s if I don’t keep the fire place going 24/7. Mind you, this is currently our only means of heating. We cannot put the new system in until things are ready in the addition portion of the house.

The new contractor is ok. He does ok work, but now he is realizing the job is taking more days than he thought it would (5 days, he is on day 8 today) he wants more money.

Haven’t we heard that one before? But I am sorry, we agreed on a price, which btw is already much higher than some other contractors quoted, so that’s what ya going to get.

If he starts complaining again, I will point out to him the following: only one of the days they worked has been a full eight hour day. If he chooses to come late, take long lunches and leave early, it is no surprise to me that he has to come out here more days.

He has been pushing to get more of the outstanding money. Someone tell, did we give him enough for now or not. We payed him ½ the first day and another ¼ this past Thursday. So he has been payed ¾ of the agreed amount.
I feel no more should be given to him until the job is completed. He is paid for labor only (we provided all the materials), so he isn’t out any money. And why should we pay you for the work you still have to do?

And of course since hubby wasn’t home yesterday he had the balls to ask me for more $$. I guess he thought he could fool me by saying hubby had told him he was supposed to have gotten more than what I paid him Thursday. Well, I know what DH told him he would get and you are not getting a penny more. I am sure he is going to ask again today. Well, if the job is done he gets it all., no problem.

So tell me why is it that I or anyone else has to complete the job first before getting paid, but in construction, they want to be paid upfront. I just don’t get. Sure if you supply the material you should be reimbursed, but we are getting everything, so he isn’t out any.

Oh, btw: he owes me $$ for some cards, I made for him last week. Let’s not forget you received those last Saturday and have not made any attempt to pay me. So why do you have to balls to ask me for money for something you haven’t even done yet??

More later, I have to take the kitty to get her shots this morning.
