Time to do my part
had lunch with my good friend ernie today (seems all i do is report in about food lol). I LOVE getting together with ernie, she is one of those hard to come by really good people.
We had lunch at one of my fav places, Thomi's. i have yet to find something on their menu i don't like, i'd say it's pretty much impossible.
guess, what? ernie and I were talking about this and that and i told her about my plans doing fundraisers for the community and that i went to all the schools and churches around here offering my services to anyone who could use some help.
and as faith has it ernie is also on the board of an organiztion (ernie belongs to many groups) who is planning to do a fundraiser soon. she asked if i would be interested in doing one for them and who am i to say no?!
I am really starting to like the idea of doing fundraisers more and more. i think the reason why it works for me so well is that even though i give away $$ i could have added to my paycheck I have the opportunity to promote within my company which in affect will give me a pay raise down the line.
sure I may have to wait to see a return for a couple of years, but it will balance itself out eventually. For now helping someone to get through a difficult time seems much more rewarding to me than trying to get every penny i can possibly get. and believe me i see people struggle every day. Most of the small businesses (and many big ones) are closing down. the schools are hurting and the food banks are having a difficult time to keep enough food on the shelves.
the way i see it, i never had this money to start with so I don't really miss it, DH has a good job, i still bring in a little extra with my new business, we have good health insurance a roof over our heads while others are struggeling to make it through the day. I need to be thankful and grateful and now is the best time ever to do my part and give back whatever i can.
